Still thinking about the power of stitch in my work for 'Strand'

Thinkings about Strand and images of my work in progress...

The threads of our lives weave and twist
Sometimes they flow, mesh and join together harmoniously and co-operatively, everything comes together
Sometimes they knot, they fray, they don't fit, clashing and tangled
However through all of that, at the centre of it is you, your thread, your journey.
You influence the threads around you and indeed your own, sometimes this is intentional and you are the weaver of your own threads, sometimes the threads are not in your control
This work is about my threads, where they fit...how all the individual strands weave together, sometimes.
Each piece is different, the red thread running through is key, this is the family thread, without it I would unravel.

I recently found some lost shoes washed up on the strandline of my favourite beach on the Roseland in Cornwall, they were asking me to work with them, thread and stitch them...here are the beginnings of those threadings, they fit with my "Strand" work, the pieces converse and work...hopefully...

These pieces have not been worked into yet, however they are the next pieces, the pocket I found in the Isles of Scilly, again a place of special significance to me, somewhere I truely feel I can breathe and be...I am not sure how this will finish...but am very excited by the outcome...

Malmesbury Embroiderers Guild

Spent a delightful evening with Malmesbury Embroiderers Guild last week as I had been asked to give a talk about the Brunel Broderers. Took the trusty projector with me and gave a 'talk' with masses of images and some samples of Broderers' work to show.
Such a friendly, welcoming and diverse group with loads going on... a great group to join!

Strand

Brunel Broderers Strand: Textiles with a contemporary twist.
Sat 17 Aug - Sat 14 Sep

The Brunel Broderers are a group of textile artists and makers well known for their innovative thinking and imaginative approach to their work.
They are excited to present a summer show, Strand, in the company of local artists Jenni Cadman, Kate Dowty and Yvonne Morton.

The exhibition opens with a talk by Erica Steer, Director of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.  The discussion will focus on the value and status of textiles in contemporary art and craft practice.

There will be opportunities to meet the artists and for interactive activities and demonstrations during the show on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Strand

I have begun work for our exhibition in Bridport in August called Strand. I am using my sketchbook, photos and memories of our holiday last year on Islay.
