Fairy Tales?

Corinne
My work is changing and evolving as I work on it....I have become more interested in aspects of fairy tales as inspiration for work in our coming exhibition.
The tales, told by the Grimm brothers in the 19th century, at first seemed to have themes of love conquering all, whether for a lover, a creature, siblings or a baby.
However, the more I think about them.........

Visual adventures and delights

Bazaars and Souks have been an endless source of inspiration to Linda. The vibrant colours, clashing patterns, textiles, endlessly fascinating clutter and the expectation of what is round the corner or in the next stall is exhilarating.
Linda's work reflects the energy and excitement
found in her excursions onto these places of visual adventures and delights

For details of the Stroud International Textile Festival go to stroudinternationaltextiles.org.uk and see our previous post about the Festival brochure.

'Fragments of prayer cloth, antique tea chests overflowing with delicate fabric woven with memory and meaning, Japanese lacquer concealing origami kimonos, soft felt fruits wrapped and stacked, lost text, forgotten text, found text, re-invented text, miniature gardens with butterflies flying free of their pins, performance, story telling, recalled walks and landscapes imprinted, broken drawers, bottom drawers, petal thin drawers full of stranded and rescued objects, systems of numbers, self assembled drawers, memories recalled, hidden treasures revealed, cloth, wood, thread and paper all intricately and individually worked to produce ' Curious Drawers'..'

Liz's work for Curious Drawers

My 'Curious Drawers' will contain drawings, artefacts and pieces of work based on walks around my local area. There is a drawer about feathers and one about leaves.
While taking the dog for a walk [and didn't she love the snow] I became fascinated with the marks made by grasses sticking up through the snow in January.
The next drawer and subject for study is about the winter fields and hedges and the amazing variety of brown colours.
With the weather is getting warmer, everything is beginning to grow and I can soon move on to looking for 'spring greens'!

Detail of work

Detail of 'gathered memories' from Chris

Gathered Memories for 'Curious Drawers' Exhibition

Chris has been looking back at experiences 'gathered' while travelling in search of how other people live their lives.. Photos, sketchbooks, artefacts and journal notes help the memory recall.
Chris' panels of collected, gathered mixed media and stitched work aim to create a reminder with each drawer's contents triggering a memory.

buttons - vintage fabric

Have just finished some covered buttons for the exhibition, really enjoyed it, have got a bit covered button crazy! Went to a rag fair on Saturday and bought some beauty vintage scraps, cant wait to turn them into buttons!

Family made

I have been working away for the exhibition - so much still to do!
My husband's grandmother made the most beautiful pegdolls - her hands were always busy with making things. Here is a pegdoll in the making that I am working on.

Louise's Knot Garden

Just finished this knot garden from the miniature garden series I am working on for Curious Drawers.
It has been seen at many Embroiderers Guild workshops unfinished so it was good to put the last few stitches in! Now on to the next!

Hi again - well I've done it. How about that - I could play with this all day but better get on with some work. Thanks Susi for setting this up.

Work

Hello, this is my first time on our new and very exciting blog. Since our meeting I have been working on my 'pieces to sell' and have thrown away more than have been successful at the moment - keep working. Its all part of the process of making. Some bits are looking better than others. What fun this blog is - just another way to talk to everyone which is what we are good at.
Next I am going to try to upload and image -
