New and exciting work from Louise Watson...

Another month, another bag for the Brunel Broderers using the fabric from the tailors shop.
The intention is to make one each for each borderer!

This work is for the Broderers 2013 exhibition entitled "Suited"...more to be revealed as the work progresses, each Broderer has an amount of fabric, fastenings, findings, buttons and suchlike from a fabulous tailors shop in Woodmancote that had long lay dormant. We all intend to manipulate, alter, bring to life the wonderful fabrics that tell such stories and hold such history.

Louise has been working on bags, of varying shapes, sizes and patterns, these bags will go on journey between now and the exhibition, who knows where and who with...

Beautiful Boxes!

Here are some of the new boxes I made with my embroidery class Autumn Term 2011.
We had a great time creating them - with inspiration from Janet Edmunds' and Jane Lemon's books on embroidered boxes.

'Curiouser'.....? Louise Watson

Artists Statement for “ Curiouser…..?” Silk Mill - Frome Sept 2011
For the “Curious Drawers” exhibition (May 2010) I made a sketchbook and chest of drawers after studying insects, looking specifically at butterflies. Last Autumn and this Winter I took moths as my theme and my work has pared down in colour and techniques. I have made drawings in pencil and ink developing the concept of fragility and ephemera. The folded creases of a moths wing suggests concertina shapes and possible sculptural forms. I intend to produce a white drawer and a small white chest inspired by moths.

More on pom poms!

As you see here we are, with fans (the boys), in the Star Anise Cafe in Stroud discovering a quick and easy way to make miraculous pompoms. This is part of the Pom Pom Project that Alison is devising with Textile Forum South West as a way to 'map' where textile people live and to bring people together to share skills and enjoy 'making' together (and chat and have coffee and cake).
All will be revealed for this project at the TFSW Conference in Taunton on Saturday 26 March - see here .Get your ticket now!
As for more pompoms for the BB's - well, it involves a birthday cake and a new exhibition - details coming at the end of this month.
