Miscellany of Matter

Alison's delicate, frail, paper thin containers were filled with curiosities - things we keep, things we need, things we don't, things we treasure, things we marvel at...

Corinne's Boxes

Fairy tales - not quite what they seem...
Details from Corinne's work..
If you click on the image you can see it enlarged - I just saw details I missed before.
One of the joys of this blog is being able to look more closely at work at another time - there was so much to see in Curious Drawers! It is like having a ticket to come back and view as many times as you feel like!!

Closing Drawers (for the moment)

Today the drawers are gently closed for now...

We have had over two thousand visitors since 1st May and will post some of the comments from our Visitors Book. It has been a wonderfully received show and thank you to all our visitors, to The Space, to the shops who displayed our work and to The Stroud International Textile Festival.
The exhibition is travelling on and details of it's next opening will be posted on here and our main website along with plans for our next events.
Meanwhile we still have much to share on this blog about our work so don't go away! More later..

Holes in your Drawers!

Alison's chest of drawers begun as a charcoal painted chest drilled all over with intriguing holes and a drawer filled with threads of varied colour, texture, thicknesses and possibilities for stitch.
It took off quickly and looks so inviting that there has been great enthusiasm to 'have a go'.
Here are a few images - there is still time to come and enjoy the exhibition and contribute to this interactive piece. Don't forget that to see more of our blog go to the bottom of the page, find on the right hand side 'older posts' and click to scroll back - or go to 'blog archive' on the right hand side and click on a title or a month you want to view!

The final step in the shop trail!

So - here we are at the end of the shop trail images.
Thanks to In Print, 31, High Street, Stroud where the window display includes this beautifully sensitive piece by Lizzie. Still plenty of time to do our trail - a whole week to go till 22nd May!

Hands

Lizzie reminded me today that I seem to have forgotten to put up many images of my own work! Here are a couple of 'hands' - drawn, stitched hands with a focus on the quality of line - pen, free machine drawn, and the lines made by hanging threads. The hands are my mother's, my own, and my little niece's.

The shop trail!

Here is an image of the shop window for Cotswold Sewing, 7a Lansdown, Stroud where Chris' piece is to be found if you are curiously looking...

Kay's artist research work

Secluded numbering systems in nature and coded significances are the substance of Kay's current research. Kay's practice seeks to translate some aspects of her discoveries about proportional relationships into cloth.

So - curious and curiouser!

Family hands that hand made items on Susi's chest of drawers are drawn and stitched onto a fine layer of 'dust sheet' evoking the wrapping, protective enveloping of treasures. The chair was made by her great grandfather who made one for each of his children.

A detail from Lizzie's 'Meet June at the Tate'

More will follow!

Chris' hidden treasures and memories revealed

This last one has the feel of travelling too!

Sharing Images from the Exhibition

Here are more images of work from Curious Drawers.
